Comfort Quilters - Quilt Makers Wanted!
Not meeting this month
This group meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month. They work on lap quilts of no particular theme that are donated to veterans through the Otsego County Veterans Affairs Office. We have fabrics and batting to use or you can bring your own. Volunteers who want to work from home are welcome and can be supplied with kits.
Patriotic Quilters of Gaylord
Not meeting this month
New members are always welcome to this patriotic group of quilters! This group meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month to work on quilts that are donated to veterans and current servicemen. So far, ninety-plus quilts have been given away!
We continue to have a need for long arm quilters, so if you haven't offered to quilt a top but would like to, we can still use quilters. Please contact the shop at 989-732-1252 if you are able to help.
We can also use folks to sew on binding and do piecework. You can meet with the groups on their Sewing Days or work from home.

Chocolate Covered Cherries (milk-free, if need be)
3/4 cup butter or non-dairy substitute
6 cups powdered sugar
3/4 cup sweet condensed milk or non-dairy creamer that has been cooked until very thick
65 maraschino cherries with stems
12 oz. milk chocolate chips or milk free chocolate chips for all 24 ounces
12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
2" x 3" piece of paraffin (wax)
Soften the butter in a microwave and stir in the powdered sugar. Add the sweetened condensed milk or alternate milk and stir together. Place mixture (fondant) in the refrigerator for approx. 30 minutes until cool and stiffened. Cover your hands with powdered sugar and cover each cherry with about 1 teaspoon of the sugar mixture. (I shape the fondant into a flat disk, place the cherry into the middle and draw up the disk around the cherry.) Place the covered cherries on non-stick paper or foil and chill for 30 minutes. While the covered cherries are chilling melt the chocolates and wax in a shallow double boiler over simmering water. Pick up a cherry by the stem, and dip into the melted chocolate. Slightly swirl the dipped cherry to remove excess chocolate and place on a non-stick paper or foil. The chocolate should "puddle" slightly. Set aside in a cool location for 3 to 5 days for the fondant to soften and blend with the cherry juices.
