                                                 The Announcement!

                                                                      From Delphine:

After 14 ½ years as owner of Delphine’s Quilt Shop, LC, I am retiring on April 29th.  I am pleased to announce that I will be passing on my legacy to Jennifer Metzger, my very capable manager, who is opening Compass Star Quilt Shop, LLC, on May 1st. It will be at the same location, with the same awesome staff and great inventory. Our fabric tastes are quite similar with just a few differences, so while there will be changes, they will be subtle.

Thank you for making Delphine’s Quilt Shop, LC a destination quilt shop for quilters from near and far. It has been an enjoyable run and I will miss visiting with you and seeing your projects whether at the beginning or the end. I appreciate the time and effort given by all of my staff members over the years and a special thank-you to my husband Dennis. I now ask that you please give your support to Jen as she embarks on her new journey as quilt shop owner.

Important notes about my closing:

Receipt coupons, from Delphine’s, will not be redeemable after April 29th.

Valid Gift Certificates, from Delphine’s, will be honored at Compass Star Quilt Shop, LLC. However, I would prefer gift certificates to be used in the next few weeks. On a side note, if your gift certificate says it expires 1 year from being issued that is incorrect. Gift certificates, sold in Michigan, are valid for 5 years from date of issue. Gift certificates can be used on-line as well as in the store so don’t hesitant to shop at www.delphinesquiltshop.com with your gift certificate.

Jennifer's Story:

My fascination with quilting began somewhere in 2000.  One of my mom’s friends gave me a book on quilt blocks and I was intrigued on how the different shapes could make something so beautiful.  I attempted to teach myself how to quilt but because I’m a very hands-on person, I had trouble getting started.  Then after marrying Dameon in 2003, I found a quilt shop in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan that hosted a $5.00 block of the month program.  I dove in with both feet and started making blocks.  My quilting journey was moving forward, but not as fast as I had hoped.  My husband and I moved to Washington State and then to Idaho. With new jobs and children that soon followed, I quickly discovered that I didn’t have as much time to do hobbies.  Then in 2007 Dameon enrolled me in a beginning quilt class for my first Mother’s Day present.  I had so much fun, that I kept taking more classes to learn all I could about all aspects of quilting.  In 2010, I began working at a quilt shop in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.  As I dabbled with applique, English paper piecing, and machine quilting, I soon discovered that my passion was with foundation paper piecing, my favorite patterns being designed by Judy Niemeyer.

In 2014, Dameon and I moved to Gaylord with our sons Dylan and Wyatt, to be closer to family.  I was elated to discover Delphine’s Quilt Shop.  In 2016 I started working for Delphine and teaching several classes including Quilt Basics, Log Cabin Foundation Piecing, and Pineapple Foundation Piecing. When I’m not working or teaching, I’m busy with family, watching my boys play sports, volunteering with BSA, and sewing every spare minute.

I am ecstatic to be embarking on my new journey. I absolutely love coming to work each day, because I love what I do. Sewing and quilting has been my creative outlet for years. As I transition into my new title, as quilt shop owner, I want to thank Delphine for this amazing opportunity she has offered me and I can’t wait to continue Delphine’s legacy as being a destination quilt shop in Northern Michigan. I look forward to seeing you soon!
