It's great to see some of our repeat travelers who stop at the shop on their way to other parts of the state, as well as those who are visiting from other parts of the country.  Thank you for stopping by and supporting the shop with your purchases.  Also, thank you to everyone who is spreading the word that the shop is open, under new ownership with a new name.

A day to work on whatever project you want to work on!  Bring your supplies, machine if necessary, and join the group for some sewcialization!  Bring money for lunch...the group usually orders lunch from one of the surrounding restaurants. 
Patriotic Quilters

This group meets twice a month to work on quilts for veterans in the area.  All fabrics are provided, and all the cutting is done for you.  Bring your machine and thread, and help work on these well deserved donation quilts.

Building Blocks

Monday, July 10th, 5:30pm-7:30pm

Cost: $10.00 per month, plus supplies

If you've already taken a beginner quilt class and are ready for the next step in learning how to quilt, look no further!  This class is designed for the beginner quilter who would like to build their knowledge base.  You'll learn the next steps in piecing various blocks and make a sampler quilt at the same time.   Class meets once a month and each month you will be working on a different quilt block.  Examples include the Bear Paw, the Snail's Trail, and Cottage Garden.  At the end of 12 months, you'll have 12 blocks ready to assemble in a layout of your choice.  Come join Jen as she shares her love of quilting with you. This class will repeat, so you can join us anytime!

Are you wanting to make a stylish purse in fabrics that you love?  Not to mention a purse with lots of pockets?  We have just the pattern!  Join Kathy  as she demonstrates how fun this purse is to make.  This is a 2-session class which will go in-depth on understanding the pattern, the fusing and cutting process and then purse assembly.  This is a great way to learn how to put zippers in purses and Kathy will share with you her tips/tricks and shortcuts along the way.  We're sure you'll want to make another when you finish.

Join Jennifer for this quick and simple project using left over 2 1/2" squares or a mini charm pack.  Add a lining fabric, a zipper and some fusible fleece or bosal foam and you've got everything you need. 

Beginner English Paper Piecing

Thursday, August 24th, 5:00pm to 7:30pm

Cost: $20.00 plus supplies

Learn the basic techniques of English Paper Piecing (EPP) using hexagons and diamonds to create a cute table topper.  Join Kathy Williams as she shows you just how much fun this hand-stitching technique can be. Finished project size is approximately 25" round.

Project Jelly Roll

Upcoming Fabric Collections Arriving at Compass Star Quilt Shop

If you're like me, I follow social media frequently and I enjoy seeing new fabrics being unveiled, even though they may be more than 6 months out from actually being available.  I am a planner and I love to plan my time and my projects, and so knowing when a certain fabric group is coming, I can be on the lookout for a special pattern to use with that group.  Then I can pencil it into my calendar, knowing that I want to sew with that new fabric as soon as possible.  Here is a partial list of what's coming to the shop!

Fruit Pizza

Ingredients:
1 pound package premade Pillsbury sugar cookie dough , can also use homemade
8 ounces cool whip , softened
4 ounces cream cheese , softened
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
 
Fruit topping:
15 ounce can mandarin oranges
2 kiwis
1 pound strawberries
1 pint raspberries
15 ounce can pineapple
 
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a round glass pizza pan.
Press the dough into the pan, about 1/8 inch thick. Pierce several times with a fork.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Let cool completely.
In a large bowl, whip together the cream cheese, sugar and vanilla. Then fold in cool whip.
Once crust has cooled, spread frosting evenly over sugar cookie with a spatula. Top with your favorite fruit and enjoy!
 
Notes
I use premade sugar cookie dough for convenience, however homemade cookie dough works great too.  Feel free to substitute any of the fruit toppings with mango, blackberries, grapes, bananas and more.
 
To make a flag fruit pizza:
Preheat oven to 350°F and spray a 9×13 or 15″ rimmed baking sheet with nonstick spray.
Press cookie dough into baking sheet, then pierce a couple times with a fork.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden. Let cool.
Spread frosting on top and decorate with blueberries for the stars and strawberries for the stripes.
